Damp Proofing

Cyprus HomeCare has been treating damp problems here in Cyprus for several years. During this time we have seen a multitude of damp problems caused by insufficiant membrains and unpainted coverings (i.e Spritz. ETC).

In the United Kingdom our homes are built to strict guidelines, they are usually brick construction with cavity walls. The correct damp proof courses are built into the walls and floors ensuring their effectiveness from rising damp and driving rain. Usually a good guttering system is also installed.

In Cyprus this may not be the case. The buildings usually have no wall cavities and generally no damp proof courses. Floor membranes can be missing, damaged or insufficient.

The pictures to the right are signs of damp, either caused by a leak, rising damp, penetration damp or condensation (please click on the picture to enlarge). However the actual damage to the paintwork is caused by the moisture mixing with the salt in the cement and causing efflorescence..

Generally most people would just scrape this off and paint over the patches, but this will not solve the problem and it will come back. With the damp proof system we use, you can prevent this type of damage to your property. The Damp Proof system does not involve any drilling, injecting, damage or weakening of your property.
