Cyprus is a very seasonal island, we typically have long hot summers and short cool winters with snow on the Troodos Mountains.
The temperature in the summer months can reach into the forties, and the high humidity on the coast the can become quite uncomfortable. The Cypriot people have learned to deal with the heat, by closing the shutters on their homes, keeping the sunshine out and the cool inside, taking leisurely lunches and long naps to avoid the heat of the day.
Oh if only!!!
Today most people in Cyprus have air conditioning units for the summer, and Central Heating for the winter. Cyprus HomeCare has become involved in the installation, servicing and maintenance of this specialist equipment. We employ qualified, skilled engineers to carry out these tasks for us.
In the past we have been asked provide technical consultation services to other local companies and have also been approached by the UN and UNFICYP for major contracts in the Capital.
We supply and install most makes of Air conditioning units with prices to suit every budget all of our installations are carried out by Qualified Technicians to ensure that your equipment will last.
Whether it is cooling off in the summer or warming up in the winter, let us create the ideal air conditioning system for you.
We cannot emphasise enough that you need to be qualified to install and maintain air conditioning systems. We have come across many companies and installers (Cypriot and English) who are not trained and qualified. One man we spoke to claims that he can fully install a system in an hour and ten minuets. The fact is if a system is installed so quickly then it is unlikely that it was installed correctly and you will be replacing the system in a year or two no matter how good the brand name was.
We have listed our qualifications on our ‘About us’ page
We have various articles related to air conditioning on our BLOG page
Air Conditioning in Paphos Cyprus
Air Conditioning installations.
The correct installation of air conditioning equipment is essential if it is not done properly then you will have expensive problems later on we also need to be responsible for our environment. When we install a system we take our time.
A typical installation will be as follows;
The indoor unit will be correctly sited and external hole will be drilled if needed. The Freon pipes will be correctly measured, connected by brazing and then fully insulated to prevent internal condensation. The condense drain will be connected and tested. The electrical connections will be made (Please note that we do not ‘twist and tape’ up electrical connections within minitrunking with heavy loads this will cause a fire. All cables are installed in accordance with the IEE wiring regulations).
Air Conditioning servicing
It is vital that Air Conditioning systems are serviced regularly to ensure efficient running, this will help to keep your electricity bills lower but more importantly it will keep the units in good working order, and will maintain the correct refrigeration gas levels.
Regular servicing will keep your units clean and disease free by stopping the growth and spread of micro organisms which can cause sinus problems and in extreme conditions diseases such as legionnaires.
Properly serviced Air conditioning will have a positive effect on allergies like hay fever and asthma. If your system is maintained correctly it can help people with respiratory problems in times of serious heat waves.
How air conditioning works
The question always asked is how does air conditioning work? Well the simplified explanation is that air conditioning/refrigeration does not produce cool air; it makes air cooler by removing heat from indoors and sending it outdoors. Air conditioning reduces the humidity of the air and acts as an air purifier.
The ideal humidity level is 40-60%.
The longer but technical reason is air conditioners use the evaporation of coolants, such as Freon, a non-flammable fluorocarbon, to create cool air. The evaporation cycle in an air conditioner begins when the compression unit compresses cool Freon gas. The Freon is mixed with a small amount of oil, which helps to lubricate the compressor. The compression of the Freon causes it to become a hot, high-pressured gas.
Our wonderful ozone layer
The ozone layer was discovered in 1913 by the French physicists Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson. Its properties were explored in detail by the British meteorologist G. M. B. Dobson, who developed a simple spectrophotometer that could be used to measure stratospheric ozone from the ground. Between 1928 and 1958 Dobson established a worldwide network of ozone monitoring stations which continues to operate today.
The ozone layer is a concentration of ozone molecules in the stratosphere. An ozone molecule consists of 3 oxygen atoms joined together forming O3. Ozone is produced naturally in the stratosphere when highly energetic solar radiation strikes molecules of oxygen O2, and this causes the two oxygen atoms to split apart in a process called photolysis. If a freed atom collides with another O2, atom it joins up, forming ozone O3. About 90% of the Planet’s ozone is in the ozone layer.
